INDIA is a land of myriad festivals , in rhythm with the cycle of the seasons. An integral part of its culture , the colorful festivals have varied origins , around which have grown legends. Fair and festivals celebrated across the length and breath of the country present a fascinating pageant showcasing the resplendence of its art and craft traditions . Some are religious in nature , others are linked with the lives of the people, change of season and harvesting.
The lunar calendar is associated with the movement of the terrestrial and celestial bodies of the universe , connecting the individua with his immediate environment and society. Everyday of the year is a celebration is some part of the country , each unique , but all characterised by colour , gaiety ,enthusiasm , feasts and rituals.

Harvest Festivals
In India you can wish "Happy New Year " almost throughout the year .That's because different groups of people observe new year on different days. Eg for Gujaratis , Diwali marks the eve of the New Year . Navroze is the first day of Parsis.Gudi Padwa for Maharashtrians .Baisakhi for the people of Punjab.
Religious Festivals
As through saying goodbye to winter , is Holi. The most important festival of Muslims is Eid.The Christians observe Good
friday Crucifixion of Jesus and celebrate Easter.The Buddhists remember their founder Gautam Buddha on Buddha Poornima. Diwali is the famous " festival of lights " festival of Hindus. Christmas is the biggest festival of Christian .Sikhs celebrate the birth of Guru Nanak , the founder of their faith. All religious festivals are celebrated by all Indians with great fervour.
Dance festivals
Konark dance festival in Orissa , is held at the Sun Temple. The thousands year old temples at Khajuraho come alive during a week long festival of classical dances.
Fairs
The Pushkar Mela , held in Rajasthan during the month of November are also called the Camel Fair.
National festivals
A part from Religious festivals , India has important festivals like Republic Day and Independence Day.These national festivals are also celebrated all over the country.
