Rao Bikaji, a descendant of Jodhaji - the founder of Jodhpur, founded this desert town in the North of the state in 1488. Visit the Junagarh Fort, constructed between 1588 and 1593 by Raja Jai Singh, a general in the Moghul Emperor Akbar's army.

Excursion by road covering 45 km in 1hr each way Proceed to Kolayat after breakfast. It is situated 45 km South- West of Bikaner. Kolayat--originally Kapilayatan--named after the sage Kapil who is believed to have done 'tapasya' (meditation) here for the redemption of mankind.

A large number of people come to Kolayat to redeem themselves by taking holy dips in the Kolayat Lake throughout the year, but it is considered very auspicious to take a dip on Kartik Purnima. The lakeside is dotted with temples.
